ResponsibilitiesNorth Spring Behavioral Healthcare, Inc. is a multifaceted behavioral healthcare system comprised of three programs to serve children and adolescents with a broad spectrum of psychiatric service needs. Programs of service include an 87-bed, Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services licensed, Joint Commission accredited psychiatric residential treatment facility, a Partial Hospitalization Program, and a 16-bed acute psychiatric hospital - which due to high demand - is in the process of expanding to 40 beds. Our business department is currently welcoming a full time Biller/Coder to the team!
Key Responsibilities:

  • Billing: Verifies billing form with resident package information. Completes information on the system if not keyed in previously. Returns all resident packets to correct filing mechanism. Researches payor information on the system and compare with forms. Copies rate sheets and attach to claim; mail hardcopy of claims. Prepares claims for billing to all payors in an accurate and timely manner. Makes corrections to rejected claims and re-bills. Assists in training backup personnel with billing as required.
  • Cash Poster: Posts daily insurance payments, county payments, resident payments, etc., in a timely manner. Demonstrates knowledge of computer system to ensure billing cycles are on the accounts, payments are posted to the correct account, and to verify account is contractualized correctly. Knowledge of reading and understanding the remittance advice forms from payors. Demonstrates knowledge of payor handling regarding the aspects of receipt, application and posting of all cash and reimbursement transactions. Establishes and ensures compliance to procedure of prompt recording of all reimbursement transactions.
  • Collector: Resolves work related problems quickly and professionally. Identifies problem situations with claims; providing recommendations and communications to management for disposition. Maintains consistent facility targets of A/R Days and Bad Debt not to exceed budget. Demonstrates responsibility for contracting payor either by telephone or website to clarify eligibility, obtain insurance benefits, reimbursement information, special billing requirements and authorizations. Contacts necessary parties by telephone, website, fax or letter for status of payment on accounts and/or ensure the receipt of the claim. Ability to perform day-to-day work which includes problem-solving activities to ensure efficient daily workload work flow to ensure efficient organization and accomplishment of rebilling, collection activity, correspondence and collection reports.

    Compensation package: Competitive salary.     Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
    • Professional written and verbal communication skills.
    • Demonstrate the ability to work quickly and accurately with numerical data.
    • Ability to maintain therapeutic and professional relationships with staff, residents and consumers.
    • Knowledge of and adherence to company safety practices.Education & Experience:
      • High school graduate or GED.
      • Minimum of 2 years' experience in medical and/or psychiatric billing.
      • Minimum of 1 year experience with personal computers, including Word and Excel software.
        • Requires prolonged sitting & repetitive use of hands for typing, writing, and calculating.
        • Able to travel between various hospital areas.
        • Hearing, vision, sensory ability, and emotional stability sufficient to perform essential job functions.
        • Able to use the telephone for extended periods of time.
        • Able to deal with stressful situations and changing priorities.
        • Able to lift, carry and lower 25 pounds without assistance.
        • Regular and predictable attendance.
