Position Summary, Job Requirements & Responsibilities What We're Looking For: Iridium is seeking an Engineer I, Ground System Operator to join our real time operations team. As a Ground System Operator, you will be part of a team monitoring and controlling the Iridium ground system at the Iridium Satellite Network Operations Center (SNOC). In this role you will work 12-hour shifts in a 24-hour multi-satellite operations environment. Rotating shifts or straight night shifts may be required. What You'll Do: * Support routine, real-time monitoring, and recovery of the Iridium ground system in support of the Iridium Satellite Constellation * Assist with detection and recovery of issues within the Iridium ground system applications, and escalate issues to Tier 2 support as appropriate * Assist in monitoring and initial troubleshooting of Iridium remote teleport antennas, and escalate issues to Tier 2 support as appropriate * Assist in monitoring and initial troubleshooting of the Iridium Wide Area Network (WAN), and escalate issues to Tier 2 support as appropriate * Support real-time anomaly investigation and resolution and follow established Fault Escalation policies and procedures * Support process improvement initiatives by properly documenting all satellite events through the anomaly and issue reporting process, via drafting sound, well-structured documents * Create accurate, timely, and descriptive event logging for all ground system outages or system events * Support team members with day-to-day tasks and activities What You'll Need to Succeed: * All applicants must complete the Iridium Satellite Ground System Operator (GSO) certification followed by an additional certification as Satellite Flight Controller or Hosted Payload Operator, as determined by operational needs. The certification process is a 15-month average, combination of in-house classroom training and On-the-Job (OJT) apprenticeship culminating in formal job task demonstration and examination * Strong communication skills, with the ability to communicate key messages and ideas clearly and effectively * Can cultivate meaningful relationships with your manager and members of your team, while being open and responsive to constructive feedback as they guide and mentor you * The ability to think outside the box to help solve problems, with the humility to ask for help when needed * Adaptable to a dynamic environment and ready to take on any new tasks that may be handed to you * Have a motivation to achieve outcomes and results * Capable of handling multiple tasks at once and completing them on time with mostly no errors * Possess an eagerness to develop professionally, continuously learn, and share knowledge with others * Candidates should be highly motivated as they will be tasked with learning a very complex ground and space system in support of Iridium Experience & Education Requirements / EEO Things You Must Bring to the Table: * Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Computer Science and 0-2 years of experience, or the equivalent work experience in a network operations or spacecraft operations environment Things That Would be Great if You Brought to the Table: * Proficiency in the LINUX operating system is a plus, as well as standard PC usage and applications * Familiarity with software development and programming skills is desirable Iridium requires all employees/new hires to be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 prior to starting work.
