The mission of the Health Department is to provide health services that enhance and ensure the health of all Loudoun County residents.


Job Description

The Loudoun County Department of Health is seeking a talented and highly motivated Public Health Deputy/Medical Director looking to work in a diverse, exciting, and fast-paced environment.
The Loudoun Health Department envisions playing a lead role in fostering a community of health and wellness. The Medical Director oversees the Health Department's epidemiology, emergency preparedness and clinician staff, and partners with the Nurse Manager on patient care issues. As a member of the department leadership team, the incumbent contributes to and promotes the department's strategic plan; provides leadership for the department's health initiatives; supervises the practice of all clinician staff; liaises with community partners; and performs medical functions delegated by the Virginia Department of Health Commissioner in the Health Director's absence.
The Medical Director is a licensed physician practicing within the scope of the medical license and provides direct diagnostic, preventive and treatment services for clinic patients when needed, including the care management of tuberculosis patients after receiving training, and will provide quality assurance of clinician services.
Hiring salary is commensurate with experience


Job Requirements

At the time of employment must be a physician licensed to practice medicine in the Commonwealth of Virginia, must possess a master's or doctoral degree in the area of public health and have at least three (3) years of professional experience in a full-time position in either a public health agency or public health-related position, or be otherwise qualified for the position as determined by the Commissioner of the Virginia Department of Health.


Preferred:


  • Prefer Doctor of Medicine with completion of an approved residency in an appropriate specialty such as preventive medicine, internal medicine, or family practice; two (2) years of executive level clinical and managerial experience (experience may be inclusive of residency and fellowship) in a comparably sized public or private organization in addition to the requirements above.
  • Master's in public health preferred.



    Special Requirements


    • Must have an unencumbered Commonwealth of Virginia License to Practice Medicine and possession of a valid certificate of registration with the Federal Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA).
    • This position is identified as Essential Personnel and must be available to work during unscheduled leave, County closures, weekends, evening, holidays, and County disasters; during emergencies, may be assigned to an alternate work site or set of duties including responding to the County Emergency Operations Center.



      Post Conditional Offer Contingencies

      Pass pre-employment background checks including criminal, fingerprinting, credit, CPS, and DMV checks. Valid driver license and good driving record (driving records may be reviewed annually for continued qualification). Complete training as required by the County or Commonwealth. Pass TB test within 10 days of hire. Vaccination or proof of vaccination as required for Health Care Personnel by the Virginia Department of Health.
