Systems Engineer III (Contract) (Location: Chantilly, VA area)
Keys to this job: *7 years of relevant systems engineering and
testing experience *Candidates need to have experience in Computer
Integration and Testing. *The manager needs a Systems Engineer that
can write test procedures to align with the “requirement flow
down”, and then execute the actual test. *This position will work
with those building computer chassis, providing Production Support
with Integration Testing *BASH Scripting experience is a “plus”
*Experience with the following types of test are a “plus” but not
required: Acceptance Testing Environmental Qualification Testing
(EQT), EMI Testing Temperature Testing (usually part of the EQT),
Vibration Testing (usually part of the EQT), and/or Design
Verification Testing. Job Description: The Systems Engineer plays a
crucial role in the development, integration, and maintenance of
complex systems and technologies used in defense and aerospace
applications. *Candidates need to have experience in Computer
Integration and Testing. This position will work with other
engineers building computer chassis, providing Production Support
with Integration Testing. *Candidate will need a strong
understanding of systems engineering principles, methodologies, and
best practices. *Familiarity with defense and aerospace industry
standards, regulations, and specifications. *Knowledge of relevant
technologies, such as avionics, sensors, communication systems, and
software integration. *Software Tools: Familiarity with systems
engineering tools and software used for requirements management,
modeling and simulation, configuration management, and project
documentation (e.g., DOORS, SysML, MATLAB, Simulink). *BASH
Scripting experience is a big plus. Responsibilities System Design
and Development: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design
and develop system architectures, subsystems, and components for
defense and aerospace systems. This involves understanding and
analyzing system requirements, conducting feasibility studies, and
creating design specifications. System Integration: Coordinate and
oversee the integration of various subsystems, components, and
technologies to ensure proper functionality and interoperability.
This includes conducting system testing, troubleshooting issues,
and implementing corrective measures. System Lifecycle Management:
Support system lifecycle management activities, including system
upgrades, configuration management, and maintenance planning.
Monitor system performance, assess operational issues, and propose
improvements or enhancements. Requirements Management: Define,
document, and manage system requirements throughout the entire
development lifecycle. This involves capturing stakeholder needs,
analyzing and allocating requirements, and maintaining traceability
between system elements. Risk Assessment and Mitigation: Identify
potential risks and uncertainties associated with system design,
integration, and operation. Develop and implement strategies to
mitigate risks, ensure system safety, and enhance reliability.
Technical Documentation: Prepare and maintain accurate and
comprehensive technical documentation, including system
specifications, design documents, test plans, and user manuals.
Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations.
Collaboration and Communication: Work closely with
interdisciplinary teams, including engineers, project managers, and
stakeholders, to ensure effective communication, collaboration, and
alignment of project goals and objectives. Participate in meetings,
reviews, and presentations. Verification and Validation: Plan and
execute verification and validation activities to ensure that the
developed systems meet the specified requirements and performance
metrics. This includes developing test procedures, conducting
tests, analyzing results, and documenting findings. Requirements:
*7 years of relevant systems engineering and testing experience.
*The Systems Engineer must be able to write test procedures to
align with the “requirement flow down”, and then execute the actual
test. *Education: A bachelor's or master’s degree in engineering,
preferably in a relevant field such as Aerospace Engineering,
Electrical Engineering, or Systems Engineering, Computer or
Software Engineering. *Advanced degrees or certifications may be
preferred for senior or specialized positions. *Technical
Knowledge: Strong understanding of systems engineering principles,
methodologies, and best practices. *Familiarity with defense and
aerospace industry standards, regulations, and specifications.
Knowledge of relevant technologies, such as avionics, sensors,
communication systems, and software integration. *Experience with
Computer Integration and Test experience. Bash Scripting experience
is a plus. *Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills to
address integration challenges and ensure system performance.
*Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively
interact with multidisciplinary teams, stakeholders, and clients.
Ability to present technical information in a clear and concise
manner. *Project Management: Proficiency in project management
principles and practices. Experience in planning and executing
engineering projects within defined timelines and budgets.
*Software Tools: Familiarity with systems engineering tools and
software used for requirements management, modeling and simulation,
configuration management, and project documentation (e.g., DOORS,
SysML, MATLAB, Simulink). *BASH Scripting experience is a plus.
